This month Canada is legalizing Marijuana and the recent gains in cannabis funds is drawing the interest of institutional investors around the globe. There are definitely opportunities to make money in this growing industry, but one of the biggest roadblocks to entry is lack of general knowledge about the challenges the industry faces. Many institutional investors are turning to funds to mitigate the risks and uncertainty that can outweigh the potential benefits. However, cannabis funds carry their own unique risks and many of the existing funds have substantial flaws and, as one would expect in a new rapidly growing industry, some outright frauds.
