Michael Merola is a seasoned real estate executive having served in senior management roles with two prominent New York City developers and has overseen a diverse range of projects including multifamily, for sale condos, mixed use rehabilitations, and hospitality.. Currently, Mike is the general counsel and chief operating officer of Youngwoo & Associates where he oversees the company’s development projects and leads the acquisitions and financing of those projects. Significant projects include the redevelopment of Pier 57 on Manhattan’s Westside in which Google will occupy in excess of 350,000 square feet, the creative redevelopment of the historic Bronx Post office into a commercial and retail building, the groundbreaking development of a 280k square foot hotel and office development in Washington Heights and a conversion of a 200,000 square foot Macy’s warehouse into a mixed used destination in Atlanta, Georgia. Mike is responsible for setting the organization’s development strategy and leadings teams to execute those strategies from initial diligence to operations of the asset. Prior to joining, Youngwoo & Associates, Mike served as the General Counsel of The Continuum Company where he led the organization’s development of a an 800’ foot luxury tower in the Flatiron district which included $500m in financing from Goldman Sachs and Fortress.
Mike is a frequent speaker on real estate matters including the Biswnow annual NYC Construction and Development Summit, the IMN Real Estate General Counsel Forum and the IMN Real Estate Mezzanine Financing & Subordinated Debt Forum. He is also the recipient of the Commercial Real Estate Finance and Investment Rising Star Award. He is acum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and a summa cum laude graduate of Franklin & Marshall College.
